The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord--Grand Admiral Thrawn--has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the New Republic's destruction. With the aid of unimaginable weapons long hidden away by the Emperor on a backwater planet, Thrawn plans to turn the tide of battle, overwhelm the New Republic, and impose his iron rule throughout the galaxy. Meanwhile, Han and Lando Calrissian race against time to find proof of treason inside the highest Republican Council--only to discover instead a ghostly fleet of warships that could bring doom to their friends and victory to their enemies. Yet most dangerous of all is a new Dark Jedi, risen from the ashes of a shrouded past, consumed by bitterness... and scheming to corrupt Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side.

I love Star Wars, and this book is really good.55
The pace and storytelling style of Dark Force Rising makes Heir to the Empire feel more like a really long prologue that is needed for all of the exposition preceding this book. Each new character that was introduced from the first novel is further developed here and the overall plot moves forward a bit more. I found myself caring much more about the smaller side-stories than I did for the imminent threat of Thrawn and his fleet, which spend a lot of time simply flying through space and having conversations. Han and Leia both have very interesting stories that could definitely exist as standalone stories and sometimes feel disconnected from the larger scope. The crazy cloned jedi story arc also continues, with very little happening that is relevant to the plot at all until the very end.35
I enjoy the story in this trilogy, it feels very Star Warsy to me. The thing that bugged me was the amount of typos. There seemed to be at least one in every chapter. There was even one chapter where the word "land" had been substituted for the word "kind" no less than three times. As in, that's a new land of ship that just was came out. Or, he was very land to the little girl. Normally I can let a few typos slide, especially books written before the e book era, but this was like autocorrect run amok. It drove me crazy.45
I remember reading this series a long time ago and it's been fun to revisit but there are so many typos for instance the word kind has been spell checked into many words other than kind and in a few cases it says die instead of the. That or my english is getting bad.55
The book was an amazing read and helped to greatly expand upon the first in the trilogy. I have been kept in my seat guessing what is to come next. Definitely a must read trilogy for Star Wars fans. On to the next one55
These are the best star wars books I have ever read! You can't pass these up. Plus they're the perfect starting point for anyone new to the expanded universe.55
The word "kind" seems to have been replaced with "land" in several places in this eBook.55
The Thrawn trilogy by Zahn are excellent books.55
