In his first and only official autobiography, music icon Elton John reveals the truth about his extraordinary life, from his rollercoaster lifestyle as shown in the film Rocketman, to becoming a living legend.
Christened Reginald Dwight, he was a shy boy with Buddy Holly glasses who grew up in the London suburb of Pinner and dreamed of becoming a pop star. By the age of twenty-three he was performing his first gig in America, facing an astonished audience in his bright yellow dungarees, a star-spangled T-shirt, and boots with wings. Elton John had arrived and the music world would never be the same again.
His life has been full of drama, from the early rejection of his work with song-writing partner Bernie Taupin to spinning out of control as a chart-topping superstar; from half-heartedly trying to drown himself in his LA swimming pool to disco-dancing with Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth; from friendships with John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, and George Michael to setting up his AIDS Foundation to conquering Broadway with Aida, The Lion King, and Billy Elliot the Musical. All the while Elton was hiding a drug addiction that would grip him for over a decade.
In Me, Elton also writes powerfully about getting clean and changing his life, about finding love with David Furnish and becoming a father. In a voice that is warm, humble, and open, this is Elton on his music and his relationships, his passions and his mistakes. This is a story that will stay with you by a living legend.
As someone who has followed Eltons life & career, I loved this book! He is very human and certainly has had his ups & downs, this tells it all. Funny, sad, poignant..... good for him!55
Boring boring boring. I didn’t like that it wasn’t read entirely by Elton John and secondly he drops too many names and details that don’t matter. If you’re looking for a great book try Trevor Noah born a crime. FANTASTIC and it’s read by him which makes it way more interesting.15
This book was very well written and interesting.55
This book is very therapeutic for all of life’s struggles. I loved it!55
Not one for autobiographies normally, but WOW...what a wonderful book! Elton is funny, self-deprecating and honest. A lovely read to remind us all — it’s not “the why if’s, it’s the what’s next?” Boom.55
This book is so well written that you won’t want to put it down. The level of self deprecation is amazing. To read on such a super star who just sees himself as a chubby poof from Pinner is so heart warming. I felt like I was sitting in a parlor with my fabulously entertaining uncle Reg who was relaying his version of every article I had ever read on his life. It’s an absolute must read for any Elton fan.55
He has never been one to make excuses or pretend that he is perfect and when you read this book you get the good the bad and the ugly. I enjoyed it and was happy I made the purchase.55
Such a great read. I loved learning about my favorite artist. Much respect to Elton John .55
Love the book. Funny in parts and tells the way he wants to tell his story!55
Sensational. Beyond candid. Simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking. Bravo!55
