In these pages, New York Times bestselling author Shauna Niequist invites you to consider the landscape of your own life, and what it might look like to leave behind the pressure to be perfect and begin the life-changing practice of simply being present, in the middle of the mess and the ordinariness of life.
As she puts it: "A few years ago, I found myself exhausted and isolated, my soul and body sick. I was tired of being tired, burned out on busy. And, it seemed almost everyone I talked with was in the same boat: longing for connection, meaning, depth, but settling for busy.
"I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, writer, and I know all too well that settling feeling. But over the course of the last few years, I've learned a way to live, marked by grace, love, rest, and play. And it's changing everything.
"Present Over Perfect is an invitation to this journey that changed my life. I’ll walk this path with you, a path away from frantic pushing and proving, and toward your essential self, the one you were created to be before you began proving and earning for your worth."
Written in Shauna's warm and vulnerable style, this collection of essays focuses on the most important transformation in her life, and maybe yours too: leaving behind busyness and frantic living and rediscovering the person you were made to be. Present Over Perfect is a hand reaching out, pulling you free from the constant pressure to perform faster, push harder, and produce more, all while maintaining an exhausting image of perfection.
Shauna offers an honest account of what led her to begin this journey, and a compelling vision for an entirely new way to live: soaked in grace, rest, silence, simplicity, prayer, and connection with the people that matter most to us.
This book is now my all time favorite read! You won’t regret it! I read this book after reading Girl Wash Your Face and that book was really good! However, I haven’t been able to find a good read that matches Present Over Perfect yet. As a new mom that experiences mom guilt a lot, this book helped me realize I don’t and can’t physically nor mentally do it all perfectly. My son, husband, and friends don’t want me to be perfect, they just want me to be present and engaged. Highly recommend reading this book!55
Great read, I was applying some of these skills, but the book got to the heart of why you want to reconnect to your heart, your growth.55
Starts off really strong, winds up being repetitive and fluffy at the end. But overall I loved the book and would highly recommend it.45
Truly loved this book. Life changing.55
So...where are they?25
I felt so much of this book mirrored my own life and it is truly a wake up call. Forever grateful for Shauna to put into words what God wanted me to hear. I have recommend this book to all of my friends and family.55
Really helped me realize what's important in life and what's not important. Highly recommend.55
Shauna words it perfectly. Present over perfect. So grateful to have found this book and the insights it gives. Some life changes are ahead for this mama!55
Great life changing book55
This book has been life-changing for me! I have found myself in a world of chaos, fragmentation, and exhaustion. I have been miserable and discouraged. Just because I am capable of doing something does not mean that I should be doing it. The stories in this book have ignited a desire for simplicity and connection. The desire has always been there, but I believed lies along the way. Through this book I am encouraged to pursue my inner God-given passions and to make time for those I love dearly in my life. I long for the peace and joy that Shauna describes in this book. I am hopeful that I will experience this and I already am. Thank you Shauna Niequist!55
