This short story is roughly 4,800 words long and is not intended for readers under the age of eighteen.
I called Wanda’s name, but she didn’t even look round. Her eyes were unfocused and dull.
It was the couple. It must have been. Anger clenched my hands into fists, but even as my temper rose, I was overwhelmed by the eerie perfection of Wanda’s captors.
I imagined myself in my girlfriend’s position. No. What was I thinking?
“Let her go.”
The female fairy smiled at me and I almost smiled back.
“We don’t want to hurt you.” She left Wanda to her man and glided towards me. “You can have her back when we’re finished.”
“Finished doing what?”
She sucked on her bottom lip. What would it feel like to part those lips with my tongue?.
“Let her go.” Her attempt at seduction made me as angry as it did horny.
“No. I don’t think we will.” She took the last step between us and stood over me, challenging me to make a move. “The king and queen of fae do not answer to mortals.”
A fairy queen? It was no more ridiculous than the rest of it.
I looked up at her, mesmerised. She was too close. I couldn’t think with the flowery scent of her flooding my brain. There wasn’t a woman on earth as stunning as her. But then, she wasn’t truly a woman.
“No.” I shook my head, but she only laughed at me.
“Very well. I will not take you.” She stroked my cheek with the back of her hand and almost drowned me in a wave of longing. “Although I can see you would like it.” She took her hand away and the lack of it left me cold. I caught sight of my lover – still held in a trance – and I felt ashamed.
The fairy followed my gaze and a cruel smile graced her lips. “If you want her back, you must give us something in return.”
Her words gave me hope. And set me worrying. In the stories, bargains made with fairies never ended well. I stayed silent.
“You’re not interested?” She traipsed back to her husband and smoothed Wanda’s hair back from her face.
Seeing her touch my lover like that made my stomach squirm. “Stop it. What do you want?”
She exchanged a look with the king, nodded and turned back to me. “Your virginity.”
That was ridiculous. “I’m not a virgin.”
The fairy king shifted to Wanda’s other side. His wife stroked a hand over him and graced him with a kiss. “Then you’ve lain with a man before?” she asked me.
I shook my head, backing away from them in spite of myself.
