New York Times bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst unveils her heart amid shattering circumstances and shows readers how to live assured when life doesn't turn out like they expected.
What do you do when God’s timing seems questionable, His lack of intervention hurtful, and His promises doubtful?
Life often looks so very different than we hoped or expected. Some events may simply catch us off guard for a moment, but others shatter us completely. We feel disappointed and disillusioned, and we quietly start to wonder about the reality of God’s goodness.
Lysa TerKeurst understands this deeply. But she's also discovered that our disappointments can be the divine appointments our souls need to radically encounter God. In It's Not Supposed to Be This Way, Lysa invites us into her own journey of faith and, with grit, vulnerability, and honest humor, helps us to:
Stop being pulled into the anxiety of disappointment by discovering how to better process unmet expectations and other painful situations.Train ourselves to recognize the three strategies of the enemy so we can stand strong and persevere through unsettling relationships and uncertain outcomes.Discover the secret of being steadfast and not panicking when God actually does give us more than we can handle.Shift our suspicion that God is cruel or unfair to the biblical assurance that God is protecting and preparing us.Know how to encourage a friend and help her navigate hard realities with real help from God's truth.

This book really helped me during a time of disappointment that I had never experienced before. It was beautifully written in a way that made me feel like I was talking to a friend, while also giving me scriptures that I hold onto today. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to be encouraged through the Word. Thank you Lysa for allowing God to use you to help me!55
I picked up this book because the title fit my life in a few words. I didn’t always read so consistently but every time I read the book it picked up on the very thing I was walking out in my life atm. Lisa is very raw and candid and so much appreciated when it comes to dealing with deep disappointment you can’t seem to shake. Highly recommend this read.55

This is such a blessing that she is so transparent in her feelings at the time and it’s amazing how it seems you can feel what she was going through. truly anointed so glad I heard about this book through the singer Fantasia Barino speaking on this being her favorite book this is why I bought it and I’m so happy I did it speaking to my heart and soul!!!! I can’t put it down!55
Some of the messages are very good and helpful. A lot of the book was hard to read, though. The authors writing style made it difficult to relate to. I almost gave up reading it.25
This book was awesome. This book was enlightening. This book would have you on edge of seat reading past book club. It would have you saying whoa or wow and really looking and trying to understand your own stuff.55
I really like the author’s talented writing ability and I genuinely felt for her personal struggles, but my goodness, “Adam and Eve” this and this and that, “dust to clay” over and over....”why did God do this?” “How could he let this happen?”, SERIOUSLY? I couldn’t keep reading.15
Outstanding book, I could not put it down. This is a book you will read more than once.55
Gods presence is definitely in this book. So glad I made this purchase back at TheRock church SD. Not quite done with this book and i’m in no rush. This book by far is helping get through what I am currently going through. Every word, every page, every scripture hits home. I AM NOT ALONE. Thank you, Lysa for reminding me and others that getting through the next 86,400 seconds we are not alone and Jesus is walking with us EVERY step if we keep our focus on him. THANK YOU!55
