Divorce a husband, lose a career …grapple with a murder.
TV journalist Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn’t stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the “Helping Out!” reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.
Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?
Soon she’s in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who sees her as a handy rung on his career ladder. And there’s the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who’s set on proving her father’s innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy.
But Elizabeth won’t fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her Sign Off.

As a crime buff/armchair detective/police procedural/forensics type reader, who enjoys really getting inside a story being told, I’m happy to have found this series; the plot, scenery, characters and atmosphere are detailed enough and entertaining with light humour, plus interesting to hold my attention. Really well done and enjoyable.55
A great writer. She. Frames and words her sentences beautifully. Her way of writing is refreshing. It is almost a clean read making it unique in a way that doesn’t follow the crowd yet grabs your attention and never lets you down. You’re continually trying to solve the mystery and never expecting the next twist. Thank you for the Great Read!!!!55
This is the first book by this author, I have read. I loved it. I found it hard to put down. After all my years reading, I can’t believe I missed her books. This book has everything. A good mystery with humor, some twists, and just the right amount of detail. Looks like I have a lot more reading ahead to be able to catch up with this series.55
Overall the book was good. The first of the book was fairly boring. I almost, but did not, stopped reading because of how boring the book was. However, around the half way mark the book took off. It was a pleasure to read and left me for more.45
Great story! I enjoyed reading this book about reporters, politicians and law enforcement officers. A good mix of characters made this a good mystery with a great ending!55
Very well written with good charafters. Only one part was unbelievable, the three men in the office with the reporter and camera. Otherwise it was a great book. Thanks g45
