Bitter Roots (Book 1 of Bitter Root Mysteries)
Murder in a small town is always personal.
Dispatcher Zak Waller prefers working behind the scenes in the Sheriff’s Office of Lost Trail, Montana, but when a newcomer to the sparsely populated town is brutally murdered—and the Sheriff is quick to pin the death on an unknown outsider—Zak starts his own private sleuthing.
On the surface Lost Trail is a picture-perfect western town, offering a simple way of life revolving around the local ranches and ski hill. But almost everyone has a secret to protect, and no one knows that more than Zak. He’s part of a younger generation hoping to revitalize the town. But evil has dug in deeper than he knows.
Perfect for fans of the British television film, Broadchurch.

Excellent reading!!!55
This is excellent beach reading. The plot is clever. The characters interesting. The writing good. (Found two typos!) it’s not going to change your life, but it’s definitely worth reading for fun.45
I really liked this book. It is a very good who done it book. I can normally pick the person or people out before the end of the book. I couldn’t with this one.55
I Love All the characters in town. Cannot wait to get into #. 2. Great mystery. No clue til the last bit of story.55
And ties up way too easily at the end15
This story is very relatable to the location in Montana and the rural way of life. Follow the twists & turns as suspects come & go thru the story. The ending will surprise you ! !45
The Bitter Root series is an exceptionally interesting and well written series. The characters are so real I feel like I know them, and the fictional town is one I’d like to visit! The stories are realistic, intelligent, and easily flow from one book to the next. The plots are well thought out. I hope there are additional books in the series! In my opinion as good as C.J. Box and John Grissom.55
Really enjoyed this book and I always wanted to keep on reading. Such a cozy book and I had not suspected that ending to the mystery. Definitely recommend.55
