India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who'll accept her - an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he's ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won't tell India why any old one won't do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London's best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she's certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she'll find herself unemployed and homeless again - and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER'S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.
I am very very very very extremely excited to read this book 📖!!!!!!!!!55
I just saw that there are 10 (!!) books in this series but this one ends in basically a cliffhanger. So I’m wondering how many of those 9 other books you need to read to get some closure on the initial problem of Matt’s watch not working right. I liked the concept, the idea of the story line. I liked the author’s writing, but at the same time the story was just very slow for me. I was annoyed that it took the entire book before the main female character, India, a highly qualified watch builder (!!), attempted to fix the watch. It also annoyed greatly me that she was conveniently in the right place at the right time to constantly walked overhear important conversations. Seriously, All the time. Nearly every chapter she came up characters talking about something important that they were withholding from her. Overall I really liked the “feel” of the story, but it’s not enough for me to invest $4.99 for the next book let alone for each of the remaining 9 books.35
Great book full of intrigue and action and dynamic characters.55
I loved this storyline!! It was so different from other novels. Loved the characters and the settings. The author drew me into the story so quickly, I couldn’t stop reading! lol You will enjoy this series, get it a read!55
Absolutely LOVE the story line and everything! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!55
At first I wasn’t sure how I liked it since the magic is much different than every other book, movie or show I’ve ever seen but that’s why I like it! It gives you a different perspective on magic and I like that it’s also a murder/mystery series with a dash of romance as well! I’ve read all of the books except the newest one that hasn’t been released yet (book 7) within a week and a half. Highly recommend. People need to know of this series!55
This book was very very good! I wish to read the next books, in the series, in the future!55
