An Apple Books Classic edition.
Charlotte Brontë’s classic is like three novels in one. Above all, it’s a haunting Gothic tale set in an ancient and remote manor house, a story full of suspense, terror, supernatural encounters, and twisted family secrets. But Jane Eyre is also a dark romance in which the road to true love is rife with potholes, as well as a coming-of-age story, tracing a heroine’s development from a shy, isolated teen into a confident woman.
When we first meet Jane, she’s just been sent by her cruel aunt to a boarding school with an even crueler headmaster. But circumstances quickly improve for Jane, whose headstrong nature bucks the social norms of the time. She becomes a teacher and starts working for the brooding, mysterious Mr. Rochester. Jane eventually falls for her employer, but he’s hiding a secret - and it’s a doozy. Brontë’s novel is, quite simply, a page-turner.
This has to be one of the best books I have read! Grounded in reality yet heartedly uplifting, definitely one of the best $0.00 ever spent!55
If you had to read only ONE classic, read Jane Eyre. I’m not a fan of classical literature (before this book) but I decided to start reading this and give it a try. The themes that are touched in this book are so related to our modern culture, I definitely see what people mean when they say it’s written ahead of its time. I do have to say after some time after the middle it started getting slightly slower but you definitely get over that quick and it doesn’t deserve a lower rating because of that.55
Absolutely beautiful and what a treat to hear my favorite actress read. Her amazing ability to change characters with a simple accent was incredible!55
So many great titles in the Apple Books Classics collection. This is one of my favorites55
I last read Jane Eyre in eighth grade, over 50 years ago, but remembered little. From the first page, I was compelled to keep reading. Wonderfully written, filled with critical thinking and adventure, a must read.45
It’s a great book and I love to read so pretty much it’s my favorite book55
I have heard abut this book for years. Interesting use of words/turn of phrase. I don’t understand why editing was not done to correct the use of Janet instead of Jane In some of the later chapters. Tsk, sloppy work!35
I picked up this book when I was bored. I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I read it. It’s starts off a bit slow, but one needs to understand Jane’s childhood in order to understand the person she is and becomes. It is my favorite book, I love all the characters especially Mr. Rochester. The character development is amazing and I absolutely could not put it down once I started reading it. A true classic I will never forget and will definitely read again.55
Excellent read. Thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.55
Has been my favorite classic since I was 12 years old and read it for the first time and I’ve probably seen every movie version ever made55
