An Apple Books Classic edition.
Charlotte Brontë’s classic is like three novels in one. Above all, it’s a haunting Gothic tale set in an ancient and remote manor house, a story full of suspense, terror, supernatural encounters, and twisted family secrets. But Jane Eyre is also a dark romance in which the road to true love is rife with potholes, as well as a coming-of-age story, tracing a heroine’s development from a shy, isolated teen into a confident woman.
When we first meet Jane, she’s just been sent by her cruel aunt to a boarding school with an even crueler headmaster. But circumstances quickly improve for Jane, whose headstrong nature bucks the social norms of the time. She becomes a teacher and starts working for the brooding, mysterious Mr. Rochester. Jane eventually falls for her employer, but he’s hiding a secret - and it’s a doozy. Brontë’s novel is, quite simply, a page-turner.
It’s a great book and I love to read so pretty much it’s my favorite book55
I have heard abut this book for years. Interesting use of words/turn of phrase. I don’t understand why editing was not done to correct the use of Janet instead of Jane In some of the later chapters. Tsk, sloppy work!35
I picked up this book when I was bored. I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I read it. It’s starts off a bit slow, but one needs to understand Jane’s childhood in order to understand the person she is and becomes. It is my favorite book, I love all the characters especially Mr. Rochester. The character development is amazing and I absolutely could not put it down once I started reading it. A true classic I will never forget and will definitely read again.55
Excellent read. Thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.55
Has been my favorite classic since I was 12 years old and read it for the first time and I’ve probably seen every movie version ever made55
This is a great book for leisure reading. There’s a ton of underlying themes that you can delve further into. Jane’s development is wonderful to see develop throughout the piece. Friendly heads up: The actual book is broken into a series of three books or parts. This one is not. Do not let that throw you.55
As I read this book in class. I wasn’t really in to it at first, but when you get half way through the book it makes you want to know what happened next!! One of the best classics I ever read!55
I had the opportunity to read this in high school, but sadly the class decided on another. But still, I’m glad I didn’t read it then, because I don’t think I would have enjoyed it, or appreciated it. As I read it, I found some interesting parallels to my own life in Jane’s story. Some of her hardships and views are remarkably similar to my own. I love the fact that Jane found faith and a relationship with God in her youth, although I didn’t form my relationship with Him until my early 30s. In the end, this was a very good, wonderful, worth-while read.55
So bad15
I love this book. It has made a huge impact on my life & has became my favorite. When I first watched the movie it was so suspenseful & had me wanting more. When I read the book I was so disappointed in the movie & on how much they had left out on the ending. This book touched my heart & has warmed my soul so much.55
