Martin Davies grew up in north-west England. All his writing is done in cafes, on buses or on trains, and all his first drafts are written in longhand. He has travelled widely, including in the Middle East, India and Sicily. In addition to the Holmes & Hudson Mysteries, he is the author of four other novels, including The Conjurer’s Bird, which sold over 150,000 copies and was selected for the Richard & Judy Book Club and Havana Sleeping, which was shortlisted for the 2015 CWA Historical Dagger award. A vigorous recounting of one of Sherlock's exploits, sort of. We all know Mrs. Hudson from the canon. What we didn't know was how much that is attributed to Sherlock was really Mrs. H's doing & thinking. A lot of sly telling that presumes you already know the standard tales. And part of that involves the spirits. Fun to read.45
I really enjoyed this twist-filled story! I'd actually love to see the BBC or PBS Masterpiece Mystery pick this up and have a screenplay made for a movie or part of a series of Sherlock Holmes events. I've always thought Mrs. Hudson is an underwritten character who should be brought forward more. This is a great example of how it should be done!55
