Maxim Thorn is a ruthless Alpha, a mobster king who rules his pack with an iron fist. He’s also my only hope.
As a shifter from the wrong side of the tracks who’s just been rejected by my abusive fated mate, I don’t have a lot of options in this city.
I have no choice but to make a deal with the devil.
But that doesn’t mean I’m powerless. I have an ace up my sleeve, a bargaining chip Maxim can’t resist. He wants revenge on my pack leaders for poisoning his father, and I hold the key to his enemy’s destruction.
In exchange for one month of protection from my ex and his friends, I promise to give Maxim what he wants—me.
I expect honoring the bargain to be pure hell. I don’t expect to ignite every time we touch or to develop a soft spot for this wounded wolf. His blood calls to mine, and I’m starting to think this wicked king may have a heart after all.
But is there room in his world for love?
Or am I destined to become a pawn in his dark game?
*This is book one in a quartet. It ends in a cliffhanger.*
I wished I read the review before purchase. The book isn’t very long and 3.99 felt a little much. The story sounded interesting so I thought I give it a shot. Turns out this book is the first of 4 separate books that you have to purchase separately. If I’d known that before hand I would not have purchased or read the story. I prefer reading books with a conclusion and a HEA. I wouldn’t mind paying a little more for the entire story. When the books are so short and separated across multiple books, it feels like a money grab. I’m not interested enough to purchase the rest. The story isn’t long enough or deep enough to warrant multiple books. Very disappointed.35
Paranormal reads are some of my favorites, although I will admit that shifters can be a bit of a hit or miss for me. Leave it to author Bella Jacobs to write a shifter romance that hits all the marks, and leaves me wanting more. WOLF KING, the first book in the Wolves of New York series, is chock-full of intrigue, suspense, and some super-steamy alpha style romance, and I was not disappointed. Maxim Thorn's and Willow Astor's initial oil and water differences quickly morph into one hecka hot 'who's the alpha now' back and forth, and it was all the witty, sexy goodness that I've come to know and expect from Bella. Now, full disclaimer, this is the first book of three in a series, so, yes, it is a little bit cliffy. Do not, however, let that discourage you, because, if you're a fan of the PNR and shifter worlds, you're not going to want to wait, so I encourage you to dive right in. Books 2 and 3 will be here before you know it, and in the meantime you get to fall in love with Maxim, Willow, and their world right away. So, go on, take the leap and spend some time with the wolves. You'll be glad that you did. ❤️45
I enjoyed reading, however just after page 200 it abruptly ends without conclusion and asks you to buy the next portion (not published yet). My guess is I was given about 1/3 of the story. I will pay more than $3.99 to get the whole story rather than a taste of it. This was frustrating and I don’t think it was worth risking again with another unfinished portion.35
The Wolves of New York is a three part series and the latest release from Bella Jacobs. Reading supernatural books is pretty new to me, and to be honest, they haven’t always been a favorite. But with Bella Jacobs at the helm with her fantastic imagination and creative writing, I was obsessed with this story and completely drawn into Willow and Maxim’s world right from the start. I could practically envision each scene as I read the words. The electricity that soars from the pages when they’re conversing is amazing and absolutely magnificent. From the moment they lay eyes on one another, they both sense the powerful pull of attraction, almost as if they were meant to find one another. I truly love the strength that Willow has when dealing with Maxim. Despite his position as alpha of the pack, she continues to exhibit a fortitude she could always sense she possessed but never admit that she had. And despite his uncertainty of whether she can be trusted, Maxim feels a connection with Willow he has never before experienced, and he truly admires the strength she displays. But as the story develops and uncertainty lingers, book one abruptly comes to an end, and Ms. Jacobs leaves us hanging onto the edge of our seats. She literally left me screaming at my iPad, leaving me wanting and now having to wait for the release of book two. Wolf King is an amazingly hot story which continued to roll through my thoughts long after I finished the book and left me with a deep curiosity of where Ms. Jacobs will take me next. I eagerly await the release of book two with a strong desire to discover where Willow and Maxim’s lives will go.55
This book is FANTASTIC!! On the run, not sure what will happen next even once she's somewhere "safe." Willow is trying to find herself and keep herself safe. Maxim is a mystery....a good mystery? A bad one? Both? The chemistry between these "enemies" is delicious! There are so many things going on in this book - it's a true page turner! I cannot WAIT for the next one. The world-building is fantastic. The characters are multi-faceted and interesting. The writing is top-notch. Shifters in the city. Prophecies coming true? Love? Hate? This book has everything!!55
