The Swift Programming Language (Swift 5.3 beta)

The Swift Programming Language (Swift 5.3 beta) Summary

Swift is a new programming language for creating iOS, OS X, watchOS, and tvOS apps. Swift builds on the best of C and Objective-C, without the constraints of C compatibility. Swift adopts safe programming patterns and adds modern features to make programming easier, more flexible, and more fun. Swift’s clean slate, backed by the mature and much-loved Cocoa and Cocoa Touch frameworks, is an opportunity to reimagine how software development works.

This book provides:
- A tour of the language.
- A detailed guide delving into each language feature.
- A formal reference for the language.

it’s good! But i hav to point out one (possible) error. Language Guide >>The Basics >> Optionals [page: 86] let possibleNumber = "123" let convertedNumber = Int(possibleNumber) // convertedNumber is inferred to be of type "Int?", or "optional Int” I think it’s a typing error in your book. Thanks45

Very explanatory, amazing book.5 star

Swift is amazing. It is some of the languages you must learn to be successful at app development. While searching tutorials on the internet, Apple kindly provided us with an iBook that we can read for free, and is amazing at the same time. This book teaches you all of the core language, and after learning, you will be able to get some development done with ease. I love this book personally, and I will keep on reading.55

Kindle please!!!1 star

Why can’t I read it on my kindle! I have to stare at a screen to read it! There is no official way to read this either in paper or on an e-ink display. The content is superb. The language is great and open source. But iBooks and it’s restrictions make my cry. Why? I love swift. Love the books' contents but I realy realy hate iBooks. And you are shoving it down our throats. :(15

So hard to read1 star

Apple might wrote this book with passion but there are so many strange things and words without explanation. The author could have written this book much easily but didn’t. Well, at least there are no good books in public I will continue to read this book but it gives me stress everytime I read this book.15

This book is corrupted1 star

Doesn’t open in iBooks; instead, gives message that says the book is corrupted.15

ePub1 star

The ePub does not allow for exporting to non iOS devices. Somewhat ironic given Swift will be open source.15

Fantastic !5 star

Swift is clearly a labor of love, attempting to solve some real problems and simultaneously expose a generation of programmers to some higher order functions. A great update to a growing language!55

Open sourced swift

Spread love5 star

I can't believe that swift will be open source and use commercially. I have been waiting this moment for year and almost in half.("thank you apple so much")💖💜💜💜55
